Assume a friend has asked you for help. Your friend is a relatively new person in an organization and has a problem with a coworker. You are not a member of her organization just a good friend who wants to be helpful. Prepare a series of diagnostic questions you would like answered by your friend.  Here is what your friend tells you.

"What should I do?  I am new to a company a few months ago.  A co-worker in my work team has for the second time just asked me to do some of her work? It seems to be a pattern. The first time she asked me to help her, about a month ago, I said I would help her and I did what she asked. I am new to the organization and want to get along.  What she has asked of me both times is time consuming and not an easy task. Furthermore, doing her work will distract me from getting my own work done the way I want to do it.  It looks to me that this co-worker is a real "loafer," and it looks like she wants to take advantage of me.

I do not want to do her work, but at the same time I do not want to have bad blood between us. It seems she is quite popular in our work team and could influence others in our group to dislike me. She has lots of friends. Everyone seems to think she's fun to be around. I admit, she can be very funny and does have a likeable light hearted nature. My problem is I just don't like doing her work when I have my own to do. I think she is "tight" with the boss too because I've seen her leave for lunch regularly with him on a number of occasions.

The work in question that she asked me to do for her is very important for the future of our group. Actually, from what I can tell, I believe I can handle the work she has asked me to do much better than she can. Oh yes, I might add, because of seniority, she is paid substantially more than I am.  I don't like the way our relationship is heading.

On the whole, I like my job and can see my future with this company. Please advise me, what I should do?"
