Guidelines for Getting to Yes (Coalition Bargaining) Paper
After viewing the tape of the Coalition Bargaining negotiation conducted in class and after reading the book, Getting to Yes, write a paper (three pages, no more than 750 words) in which you explain the essence of what happened during the negotiations, as described by the "theory" of the book.
In other words, analyze the outcome in terms of the standards found in Getting to Yes.
Structure the paper in the way that best communicates your analysis and demonstrates you understand the essence of the arguments of the book. Get quickly to the major points of your analysis.
You may share the authorship of the paper with other members of the class, or an OFS team, or part of a team. If you write a paper with others, all will receive the same grade for the paper.
Be sure to identify your point of view. Were you an observer, or if you were a member of a group, which group?
You do not need to explain the rules of the exercise in your paper or report in any detail what happened, who said what to whom, unless you need to make a point about Getting to Yes. I saw the tape. Get to the point. Explain, the "why" of the most important things that took place and your interpretation of why these things happened or what might have happened differently if different strategies had been used. Address "the big picture" of what occurred.
