Exam 1 Instructions
These exams are
difficult, so you should read assigned material carefully, study a lot and
thoroughly understand the material.
Just because we
don't cover text material in class does not mean that you are not
responsible for it. You will
find some questions we were unable to cover in class.
Given the OFS and other ways the class is taught, it's impossible and highly
undesirable for the instructor to lecture on every detail.
The exam will be short answer, T/F, and multiple choice. The questions come from a pool prepared by both me and Prof. Bolman.
Sample Questions Answers
You take the exam first individually and turn in your answers. Then your group takes the same exam. When you finish the group exam, you can personally decided whether you wish to have your individual exam serve as your grade or if you wish to use the group exam to determine your grade. All in the group who chose the group option receive the same grade.
The highest individual or group grade sets the standard for grading for a group grade. The balance of the grades are determined as follows, by example:
If, for example, there are 100 questions. and the best group or individual grade is 90, any individual who has chosen the group option in a group which answers 90 correct gets 100% of the points assigned to the test.
If there are 100 questions. and the best individual grade is 90, any individual who has chosen the individual option who answers 86 correctly receives 86/90 of the points assigned to that assessment.
Here is another example. Assume the best individual grade or group grade is 95 out 100 possible questions. If your group answers 80 correct and you have decided to be graded by the group option, you and anyone else in your group who has chosen the group option, receive 80/95 of the points assigned to that assessment. If you have chosen the individual option with 80 correct, you receive 80/95 of the points assigned to that assessment, and so on.
In summary, if you chose the group option, the best individual or group score sets the standard. If you chose the individual option, the best individual score sets the standard.
You have exactly 1 hour for individual exam. You can write on the exam booklet but you must turn it in at the end of the exam or you will not receive a grade.
Don't leave the room or
refer to notes or the text between exams. Bring a magazine if you think you may
finish the individual exam early.
