Questions chosen for Sept. 13
Dear Dr. Heimovics,

Our group liked the idea of allowing our classmates additional time to think about the questions chosen for the Shared Inquiry discussion.  If possible, could you please post the following questions on the bulletin board?

Thank you for your help.

Matt Goyer - Thompson mentions visual traits that differentiate leaders that are elected vs. those that are appointed. Being tall and clean shaven are among the desirable physical characteristics she lists for elected officials. Why do you think people use physical appearance as a method for judging a person’s leadership ability?

Joshua Key - Hackman talks about Walking the Authority Balance Beam. He talks about minimizing anxieties and managing uncertainties. Is there a right or wrong way to do this? Has anyone seen a manager do this? Were they successful? Why?

Matt Lind - Thompson comments that power makes people see the world with "rose colored glasses". Why do people in positions of power look at a situation with more optimism than people in powerless positions?

Kristi McKee - Hackman discusses the idea of leadership vs followership. What are the different characteristics of each? Is it possible to fluctuate between a leader and a follower successfully? Elaborate.

Scott Jarrett - Thompson discusses the different leadership styles prevalent in businesses. Discuss which leadership styles you have encountered and your experiences with them. From a profitability and shareholder value point of view, do you think most businesses use the best leadership style and why?
