Edition 01/03/07
TECHNO STUFF This is prepared for all the courses I teach. There are slight differences from course to course and these differences are noted below or on the course web site.
Is
your computer's display configured properly? If you can't see all the
text or graphics within the compass of your screen, you probably need to
change your monitor resolution. For Windows-based PCs, use the "Settings"
menu under the "Start" icon to choose "Control Panel," then "Display," then
"Settings." For desktops with standard 14-, 17-, and 19-inch VDTs, I recommend resolutions of 800 x 600 pixels or 1024 x 768 pixels.
How
fast is your Internet connection? If accessing the website takes much
longer from home than at work, you're probably using a high-bandwidth connection at the office, compared to,
in some cases, a relatively slow modem at home. You will be glad if you have or can access to a broad band connection.
In
some of the courses I teach, it may be necessary (see schedule for course) to have access to a
computer with an audio card and speakers which will support the latest Explorer
browser. Upgrade Explorer at Windows
Update. Netscape users have troubles with
Microsoft streamed applications in this course, so use Explorer.
Sorry, it's Microsoft, not me. Mozilla Firefox seems to work ok.
You may need to download Real Player
to stream video and audio in some courses I teach, if it is
not already available on your computer. See the Schedule.
The Bloch School Computer Lab is
available Hours.
Power Point
Presentations to download. Wait to copy them until you need
them as there can be some last minute
changes. The files are safe as they are screened by UMKC.
Some students have been unable to use company computers to access
audio/video streaming files or create downloads because of company firewall
restrictions. Check with your company's policy before you assume
something is wrong with your computer or this website.
When you email me, please put the course # e.g., BMA505 or BMA405, and your
last name on the subject line, e.g., "BMA505-McGilicutty" and anything
else you think important. This will help me sort through email and get
to yours quickly. Check: Website
and Email.
Feel free to use this website as it might help us. If you find something
useful to share, e.g., an interesting URL or article, send it to me and I'll post
it.
