DALE AND DOROTHY THOMPSON
Dale and Dorothy Thompson had a tremendous impact
both as a couple and as individuals.
Dale Thompson served for several years as chairman
of the board of the City Bond and Mortgage Co. Mr. Thompson was a member
and chairman of the Missouri Board of Education for 16 years. Mr.
Thompson served as a trustee of the University of Kansas City, as
treasurer and board member of Truman Medical Center, as a trustee of
Children's Mercy Hospital, as Chairman of the United Negro College Fund,
and was a founding member of UMKC's Friends of the Library.
Dorothy Brown Thompson was an accomplished poet. Her
poems were published in 135 magazines and newspapers across the United
States, Canada and abroad. In 1992 at the age of 95, she compiled and
published a book, Near View, which included 140 of her poems. She
died in 1994.
The Thompsons were widely respected in arts and civic
communities. The legacy of their passions, beliefs and commitments lives
on.
